Hi class,

Some of you mentioned that you are not good with problem sums involving quadratic equations. Here's some questions for you to try out.

1) Damien is twice as old as his sister. The product of their ages will be 228 five years from now. Find Damien's age 3 years ago.

Ans: 11 years old

2) The area of a rectangular piece of land is 96 square metres. If its length is 4 m longer than its width, find the perimeter of the rectangle.

Ans: 40 metres

3) Find 2 consecutive positive even numbers such that the sum of their squares exceeds the product of the 2 numbers by 28.

Ans: 4 and 6

If you think that you need more practices on certain topics, please let me know.

I've printed 2 sets, you will get them on Monday. More to come, no worries. Please try all sums in Ace-learning... there's many good questions.

Hey, I've got a brain teaser for u all!

Tom wants to buy a pair of shoes, but he has no money.

So he borrowed $50 from Harry and another $50 from Daniel.

Now Tom has a $100. He used $97 to buy the pair of shoes. He is now left with $3. He gave $1 to Harry and the other $1 to Daniel. So he is now left with $1.

Now...Tom owes Harry $49 and Daniel $49 too.
So he owe the two of them $98.

Lets add the last $1 from Tom to this amount.

$98 + $1 = $99

K, now here comes the question.

Tom owes Harry and Daniel $100
at first, now he owes both of them $99. Why is this so? Where did that $1 come from?

$100-$99= $1 ( where did this $1 come from? )

Note that this is a brain teaser.

Try redoing adding and subtracting all the amount of money involved and while doing so mind the signs.

Thats a very good hint to all!
Take note of the signs(adding and subtracting)
If you do so, you just might get the answer...

Ok! Here's the answer!

$50 from Harry and $50 from Daniel.
Give $1 to both of them.

$50-$1=$49(harry)

$50-$1=$49(daniel)

Total=$98

Ok, when the question says 'add the last $1 to the amount'.

Take note that we shouldn't add, instead we should minus!!!!!

$98+$1=$99 (If u do this you will never get the answer)

We should...

$98-$1=$97 (thats the money Tom use to buy the pair of shoes)

$100-$97=$3(Thats the remaining $3)

$97+$3= $100 (The final amount)

Ok, maybe the answer still is a little confusing, just keep reading it and you will soon get it.

This is a pretty tough brain teaser, it took me quite long to solve it.
