Calculator Skills
I hope you still remember how to use calculator to check if your answers to the simultaneous equations are right!! For those who has forgotten, you can click Mode 20 and start keying in your values for x, y and constant. Note that the constant [that is, the number] should be on the other side of the equation alone.
We have just learnt how to solve quadratic equations via factorisation. Here's how you can check your answer by using calculators. Press Mode 22 this time round. The "a" stands for the coefficient in front of x^2 [that is, the number in front of x to the power of 2], "b" stands for the coefficient of x and c stands for the constant. Remember, you always have to shift everything to 1 side, making the other side having a value of 0 BEFORE keying in the coefficients in your calculator.
For instance, if we have x^2+x=6, we have to change it to x^2+x-6=0 first. Press Mode 22. a=1, b=1, c= -6. You will see x1=2, press =, and you will see the 2nd answer, x2= -3.
Take note that this is only for CHECKING PURPOSES. All workings are still required, omission of working will end up in a loss of marks!

i do noe how to peform the function in Casio calculator (some of the models only) but i dont noe how to write it in the blog . I think i will show it to you personally is that fine??
However it is very sad to see that some of the students are mistakenly using the calculator to solve VERY simple equations like 1000000 x 21 and thing like that. I dont really think that a calculator should be used in such cases. In fact my country does not even allow using calculator.Hehe :P
Well said Thomas! Calculators are only meant for checking purposes, they should never be used with the mindset of replacing the human brain. The basic calculations should always be attempted by the brain and this benefits one in the long run too. The brain will only stay active when we frequently yse it. :)
